Yarns and Gods
I had always wanted to name my different yarn bases, but didn't really had a theme in mind that I would like to have constantly related to my yarns... so I forgot about it.. and then the thought would cross my mind, like it did two weeks ago.
What changed this time? It also happened to discuss the matter with a retailer and like a flash, at the exact moment.. my theme appeared to me! The Gods of Mount Olympus! How didn't I think of it before? As a child I adored Greek Mythology and as an adult I was always fascinated not only by the creativity and imagination of the Greeks but also of their wisdom. I shall not say I am wise, but my love for color, fiber, mythos are kindled and unite in TréLiz!
So here we go, it is official, TréLiz yarn bases are going to be baptized!
We start with King Zeus, the sky and thunder god, famous for his erotic escapades! Who else would better represent 100% Superwash Merino Single? As we are talking about wool, the 100% Superwash Merino 4ply would be named after his (jealous and hateful) wife and sister, Hera, goddess of women and marriage (hopefully not like hers lol).
One of my favorites bases, that captivates light like no other had to be named Apollon - 50% Superwash Merino 50% Silk- as he is the God of music, truth and prophecy, healing, the sun and light, poetry. And his twin sister Artemis - 50% Baby Camel 50% Silk- goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, childbirth, viginity and protector of young girls, bringing and relieving disease in women; she often was depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows. You can imagine, as a tom boy and animal lover she was my favorite one since childhood!
Another loved God is Hermes - 70% baby alpaca 20%silk 10% cashmere- quick and cunning, moving freely between the worlds of the mortal and divine. Messenger of the gods and synonym of luxury in our days. Contrasting the subtle cashmere and the God of boundaries, we will found the God of War: Ares - 75% Superwash Merino 25% Nylon- a dangerous force to deal with (he is the Dark Force of the Greeks).
One of Ares lovers, was Aphrodite: 100% Italian Hand Spun Mulberry Silk- the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure. Desirable and pretty she was married to Hephaestus - 75% Superwash Merino 20% Silk 5% Stellina Sparkle- God of craftsmen, artisans, fire and volcanoes.
Greece has also two very important things for Greeks (and not only): beautiful seas and wine. I don't think that Poseidon and Dionysos have ever danced together but here we go! Poseidon - 72% Kid Mohair 28% Silk - God of the Sea and Dionysos - 80% Superfine alpaca 20% Silk - is the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theatre and religious ecstasy (no wonder he was worshipped everywhere) he was the youngest God.
Last but not least, the eldest goddess of Mount Olympus: Hestia -80% Extra Fine Merino 20% Silk- goddess of something sacred to the Greek people: the family, the hearth.
I will be making a few changes on the website, but do not worry... you will be able to find what you need whenever you need it!
