Have you ever been approached by a stranger while you are fiber crafting or told someone that you knit or crochet and their reaction is like:

• Why?
• Isn't that for old people?
• Isn't it time consuming?
• How?
• Why? (YES! AGAIN!)

So here I go, patiently (rolling eyes - shh), tell them about the benefits that we all know that knitting/crochet has.. It makes you more calm (not when I realize my cable is going the wrong way), more focused, lowers blood pressure (not when I skipped two rows of that fair isle chart), it clears your mind and the repetitive movement of the stitches works on your mind like meditation, it helps hand - eye coordination and blablabla...

Sometimes they get it and go on their way, but other times (and it is quite often) they just sit and look at me and ask me:

Why? (YES! AGAIN)

My ultimate response to that is a broad smile filled with mystery lol... But sometimes I wish I had the courage to say: "F*ck Off! I'm knitting" (or crochet). Am I too rude? Yes, I am! Because it is rude of you to judge me because I want to knit at my thirties, or because I want to spend my money on dreamy yarns, and not in a ready-made sweater (which I have, always will, always will have).

Can you say that you can made a sweater? A scarf? No and it is okay with me, I totally get it.. If you had told me 5 years ago I would like to knit I would have found you hilarious!!! Do you like shopping? Do you fantasize on that beautiful new dress, and all eyes on you when you wear it? Well I do too, but I also fantasize on what this yarn is going to be, making up my mind, changing my mind a million times, playing designer! So here is the big bonus! I get to fantasize for much more, from picking up the yarn, to deciding what it is going to be, to the endless (sometimes) knitting... to the end! Fantasy ends when you have worn it a couple of times and have shown it and bragged about it at least to 10 people (that gets you).

...and it gets better!

Say "I am also dyeing yarn/fiber, and I love spinning wool!".... You will either get a series of compliments and genuinely interested people (which it is not very often) or a series of questions with a look of disbelief:

• Really?
• Why?
• How?
• What do you do of the yarn?
• You sell it?
• You want to make a living out of that?
• Why?
• Are you crazy?
• Really? (YES! AGAIN!)

So yeap! You are not rude at all! Sad that people do not have mutual respect for each other.. Creative people have hopes and dreams, insecurities, bad and good days. They like to do things differently, on their own terms. If you can not understand them be polite, kind, otherwise don't say anything. Imagine if we all did the same thing? Wouldn't that be boring?

Face it world! Knitting is not lame or archaic. It is FREAKING AMAZING. It is not called just by coincidence "the new yoga": it keeps you healthy, focused and aware. Do not be shy and give it a try!

Let's make together a Revolution. Lets say to society, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, children, neighbours, friends...
